I'm Accountable to You

Before 53 pounds gained

Since my daughter’s birth, I have found numerous excuses as to why I cannot start exercising again. During my pregnancy, I gained 53 pounds while on complete bed rest.

The night my daughter was born, I instantly lost 17 pounds. Once we were home, I was losing weight steadily without working at it. My exhaustion and the doctors saying to rest until my 6-week follow up, which turned, into a nine week follow up kept me from exercising. I was then told I needed to continue to take things easy for my body to heal for a total of another four months. At this point, I was 6 months postpartum. I am an insulin pump dependent diabetic, which causes my body to heal slowly. The other issues with healing had to pertain to my iron levels, vitamin C and D levels being low. All of this increased my exhaustion and pain levels.

Now that all the pregnancy hormones have left my body, I was put back onto multiple medications. Besides being Diabetic, I also deal with Fibromyalgia (chronic muscle pain), Neuropathy (chronic nerve pain), Spondylosis (lower spine is fused together), Charcot Arthropathy (weakening of the bones in the foot) and Degenerative Connective Tissue Disease (loss of connective tissue around joints). All of these diagnoses cause me to be in constant pain throughout my body. However, I know that once I get back to my low impact exercise routine I will feel better. It is just mustering up the ambition and strength to push myself.

I recently read a blog titled I AM FAT… BUT NOT FOR LONG by Katie. Katie too is a mom struggling with weight loss and has set a goal to be fit by time of a family trip. Her story made me realize I need to make myself accountable! Therefore, I too am making myself accountable to my readers. Summer is coming, trips are planned, new experiences are to be had and I do not want to be left behind stuck in bed with debilitating pain while my family is enjoying life.
April 1st 2016 I made myself accountable to my readers and not my family. My family loves me as I am and accept my excuses because they don’t want me hurting more. As much as they think this helps it allows the cycle of pain and laziness to continue.

So I ask…. Will you be part of my cheering squad?

    1. Thank you! Pain is pain no matter the scale. If it prevents you from doing what you want to do it counts! I hope you can find a way to overcome your muscle pain to be able to run long distances.

I am struggling with an exercise regime because of lack of sleep, but I am really just making excuses too.
